The only time I feel that not living in one of the big three cities has affected us is as it pertains to convenience, i.e. you’ve got to travel three hours to Nashville for a one-hour meeting. Ugh.
Otherwise, I’m glad that what I’ve done creatively thusfar hasn’t looked/sounded/felt like standard industry practice. Certain characteristics seem to creep in to artists’ presentation when they live in the aforementioned cities and absorb the culture of music business too much. It’s not bad, just a bit… stock?
I’m happy to live outside the circle. Maybe I’ll live inside it more one day, who knows.
From a Dayton, Ohio native Singer / Songwriter living in Nashville: How do you feel living in Indiana [vs Nashville, LA, New York] has effected your career? Songwriting? What made that decision easy or hard?
